The duo Los Javis, composed of Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, have managed to stand out in the world of acting, directing, and writing with successes like La Llamada, La Veneno, Paquita Salas, and Cardo. They have made a mark on Spanish culture with their innovative and exciting projects. Their talent and dedication have made them role models for young artists looking for opportunities in the entertainment industry, and after their visit to the Soto del Real prison, we were able to learn more about three of their qualities.

Unity and trust.

Javier Ambrossi: We share our professional and personal lives, and that gives us an advantage that few people have. Not everyone can share their ideas and points of view with others.

Javier Calvo: In the end, it’s the trust we have in each other. Although there’s also the risk of becoming too obsessed with an idea and if it fails, it’s your fault. There’s a thin line between guilt and ego. We are very accustomed to each other.

Inspiration.

Javier Ambrossi: Inspiration comes to us, on one hand, from real life, from the encounters we have, from the news and stories that come our way; and on the other hand, from our inner voice. It’s like making a collage, you gather ideas from here and there, and over time it comes together. Many times, you use your own life experiences to fill it with fictional characters, but in the end, you’re talking about yourself.

Javier Calvo: Music inspires me a lot. There’s always a song that makes me create an entire project. Much of what we have created has come from a song.

Authenticity.

Javier Calvo: Being authentic is not being afraid of what others might think and trying to do what you like the most, what excites you or moves you at any given moment. Forget judgment.

Javier Ambrossi: I think many people believe in what they will achieve by doing one project or another. “I’m going to make an action series because they’re popular to make money.” “I’m going to write a history book because it’s currently in vogue.” Not us. We do things because we like them, because it’s what we want to do. And because people are so different, if you listen to yourself a little and stay true, there will always be a door where someone feels represented. For example, Paquita Salas is about an out-of-favor talent agent that nobody was interested in. And it has connected with a very young audience who often don’t even understand the reference of the jokes. If you’re authentic, you will always connect in the end.

Javier Calvo: And that authenticity is using all the things we loved as kids and filtering them through our own lens. In the end, you’re authentic when you’re true to the things you love and incorporate them into what you do.
